Jeanie Ellen Parker

On Tuesday, May 7th 2024, our family lost our foundation - and the world lost an angel when Jeanie Ellen Parker of Wardensville, WV passed away suddenly at the tender age of 86. She was deeply loved by her many family members and friends and will always be remembered as the standard of what a compassionate and kind soul truly is. Jeanie was born on April 25, 1938 in Frederick County, VA. She attended James Wood High School and professionally worked as a licensed Certified Nursing Assistant. In March of 1954 Jeanie married Herbert Funk, who preceded her in death in 1990. She was a member of the Sugar Grove Church of the Brethren in Wardensville and also did a lot of private care in that area. Anyone who had the privilege of meeting Jeanie knows she devoted her life to her family first, but that she was also truly passionate about providing care for those less fortunate. She lovingly took care of her elderly parents and served as a foster mother to over 30 children. At times her house was overloaded with her own 6 children as well as the many foster children. Her selfless nature also extended to caring for her sister and granddaughter. There are so many people who’s lives were made better because of Jeanie and her tenderness and we are forever grateful for the strong example she set for us. Jeanie is survived by her loving husband of 34 years Paul Parker and her children: Norma Willey, Herbert & Rebecca Funk of Winchester VA; Richard & Tina Funk of Stephenson VA; Linda & Scott Brown of Bunker Hill WV; Frances & James Shirley of Augusta WV. Her grandchildren: Shannon Dayley, Josie Coates, Robert Boyd, Charlene Jensen, Nicole Carattini, Joseph Chrisman, Annie Welty, Wendy Dillow, Amy and Bryan Ketterman and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Rachel Donald. Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents; 5 siblings, her first husband, daughters Sharon Funk, Virginia Ketterman, her granddaughter Tiffany Taylor and son in law Lee Willey. Friends will be received 6-8:00 pm Monday in Phelps Funeral Chapel 311 Hope Drive, Winchester. The funeral will be 11:00 am Tuesday in the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Jan Orndorff. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Stephens City. Pallbearers will be James Shirley, Robert Etter, Chase Carattini, Andy Carattini, Robert Boyd and Rhys Dayley. Honorary Pallbearers are Scott Brown, Ian Duckstein, Bryan Hartley, Joe Parker and Jimmy Hart. Arrangements are by Phelps Funeral & Cremation Service.
