Donnie May

Mr. Donnie May, devoted father, son, brother, uncle and friend, was born on November 14, 1958 in Wilson County, NC. He departed this earthly life on January 16, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Donnie was educated by the Stamford CT public school system. Later in life, he met and married Denise Dreher and with their marriage came the joy of their life, Taurean May. Donnie was a determined and hardworking man throughout his life. Some of his careers included a technician at Pitney Bowes in CT, until finding his calling as a limousine driver, which he performed and executed wonderfully for over 25 years. Donnie decided to move to Winchester, VA to care for his mother before retiring from Rubbermaid as his final occupation. Donnie enjoyed many things. From playing spades, watching Sanford & Son and other classic sitcoms, to enjoying Sunday football and cheering on his favorite team the New York Giants. But of course, as all know, Donnie loved to sing. You could say he was a walking jukebox. Donnie had a song for every situation. He believed that we should call on the name of the Lord in good times and bad because “The Lord sees and he knows.” Known and loved by so many, Donnie was given multiple nicknames. Sharing a few would include: Don Juan Demarco, Don Juan from the Amazon, Old geezer, Skint, D, Stanley, Grunkel Stan, last but not least BOSS! Each of these names were personal and he cherished them all. Above all, Donnie was a God-fearing man and a strong believer in the faith. He was a member of changing lives prayer line ministries, where he was an active participant in praise and worship as well as ministering. While ministering often to his family, he would sing the message and the word of God. Donnie truly was one of a kind. He was always there in any way he could be. Donnie lived his life as a Good Samaritan to all that he encountered in his life. We are blessed to have experienced his kindness, compassion, and mainly his love. Donnie is preceded in Glory by his parents James and Lureathea May; 5 brothers, Thomas Ray Dixon, Ronnie May, Gregory May Sr.,Haywood Charles May and Willie Albert Dixon; 3 sisters, Joyce Marie May, Ruby Dorris Forman and Patricia Ann Price. He is survived by his son Taurean May (Bridgeport CT) 2 brothers, James Oscar May Jr. (Viola May, California MD), Thurman May (Hagerstown MD) 1 sister Sylvia Jean Miller (Winchester VA). A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. A service will be 11:00 am Friday in Phelps Funeral Chapel 311 Hope Drive Winchester officiated by Bishop Bobby T. Hudnall. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park. Friends will be received Thursday 6-8:00 pm in the funeral home.
