Georgia Coffelt Kerns

Georgia Anna Coffelt Kerns, 69, formerly of Winchester, passed away Monday, February 27, 2017 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center, Cookeville, TN . Georgia was born Sept 24, 1947 the daughter of Glenn O. and Mary Lee Brill Coffelt in Winchester, VA . She married Charles E. Kerns on July 19, 1963. Georgia was employed in retail / supermarket sales and was also a secretary at the Winchester Medical Center. She was of the Methodist faith, an avid reader, loved working puzzles, playing bingo, and was a trivia buff. Being in an active firefighting department family, Georgia Anna was the first female EMT firefighter at Shawnee Fire Department and also served as president of their auxiliary. Georgia provided many animals with a loving home. In addition to her husband of 53 years, she is survived by her children, Russell “Tater” Kerns and his wife Kathy of Winchester, Kristle Kerns and her partner Pete of Romney, WV, and Pam Baker; grandchildren, Brandon, Amanda, Megan and Chase Kerns , Josh & Jessie Baker, and Timmy Williams; great grandchildren, Hunter Kerns and Bailey Trenum, a brother, David Coffelt and his wife Debbie; sister in laws, Alma “Sis” Gaunt and Mackie Kerns, and several nieces and nephews . She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Elmer Sallinger, brother Bobby Brill and in-laws, Russell and Alma Kerns. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Esther Boyd Animal Shelter, 161 Fort Collier Road Winchester, VA 22603. A funeral will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday in the Phelps Funeral Chapel 311 Hope Drive Winchester officiated by Reverend John Morrison Burial will follow the service in Macedonia Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be Russell “Tater” Kerns, Brandon Kerns, Chase Kerns, and Brian Trenum. Honorary Casket Bearers are Kristle Kerns, Charlie Brown, Terry Braithwaite, and Pete Tokach Friends will be received Friday from 7-9:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
