August 22, 1962 - January 11, 2012
Clifton Eugene Hartley, Pastor, age 49, of Frederick County, died Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at his residence. He was born August 22, 1962 in Winchester, the son of Robert Marshall and Maude Parker Hartley. He was married to Sharon Whitacre Hartley. Pastor Hartley had been a self-employed carpenter and pastor of Zion Baptist Church of Ninevah, VA. Surviving are his wife, Sharon Whitacre Hartley; two daughters, Patricia Marie Toy and her husband Cody and Rebecca Ann Hartley all of Stephens City; a son, Benjamin Joseph Hartley of Stephens City; two granddaughters, Natalie Elizabeth Toy and Alayna Gabrielle Toy; four brothers, Gary Lee Hartley, David Marshall Hartley, Timothy William Hartley and Bryan Scott Hartley; a sister, Regina Fay Collette and numerous nieces and nephews. Cliff will be missed by all who knew him. As a husband, he was the loving, responsible provider. As a father, he was the example his children want to follow. As a brother, he was loyal, encouraging and strong. As a friend, he was faithful and was always there in time of need. As a carpenter, he worked tirelessly at his trade, careful to be efficient with his time and fair with his customers. As a pastor, he was the shepherd that loved and cared for his congregation. Cliff gave of himself to others-only eternity will reveal the countless lives he touched. His strength and humility will not be forgotten as he spent his last years on earth facing great adversity but always thinking of others and pointing lives to Calvary.
