Charles Oliver Grubbs Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Charles Oliver Grubbs, 85, of Berryville, died Saturday, October 1, 2016 in Winchester Medical Center. He was born February 9, 1931 in Clarke County, VA the son of Thomas Jefferson and Bertha G. Grubbs. He was married to Shelby G. Grubbs in 1958. Mr. Grubbs served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of the University of Virginia. Mr. Grubbs was a retired bank examiner for the FDIC and owner of Grubbs Properties. He was a trustee and member of the Berryville Presbyterian Church, a member of the Berryville American Legion, a former member of the Clarke County School Board, an avid supporter of Clarke County athletics especially the softball program and the namesake of the Charles O. Grubbs Softball Field. Surviving in addition to his wife are his mother-in-law, Dorothy B. Grubbs of Berryville; three daughters, Kimberly Braithwaite and her husband Joey of Berryville, Lisa Kempler and her husband Larry of Bluemont and Susan L. Grubbs of Berryville; a son, Charles Gregory Grubbs and his wife Karen of Berryville; a nephew, Stephen Galloway of Boyce; seven grandchildren, Emily Braithwaite, Laura Ferrell, Jordan Braithwaite, Duston Grubbs, Amanda Grubbs, Whitney Grubbs and Lawrence G. Kempler, III and five great-grandchildren, Sarah, Jaxen, Madisyn, Grady and Lane. Two sisters, Mary O’Connell and Edna Galloway and his father-in-law, Alvin Grubbs are all deceased. A memorial service will be Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in Berryville Presbyterian Church, Berryville with Rev. Jonathan Bunker officiating. Friends will be received on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in Phelps Funeral Chapel, 311 Hope Drive, Winchester.
