Janet Smallwood Moore

Janet Smallwood Moore, a cherished soul whose life was a testament to love, selflessness, and unwavering devotion, passed away at her home on July 17, 2026. Born in Winchester, Virginia, on September 9, 1955, Janet's journey on this earth was marked by compassion, service, and an enduring love for her family and community. Janet was the beloved daughter of Blanche Smallwood, who instilled in her the values of faith and kindness that she carried throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her dear brother, David Smallwood, and her beloved sisters, Betty Shackelford and Deena Wilkins, whose memories she held close to her heart. On April 28, 1972, Janet married the love of her life, Frank Moore. Together, they raised their son, Frank Moore Jr. Janet's family was her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with her son, daughter-in-law Stephanie, and her treasured grandchildren, Ethan and Abi. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she found immense joy in sharing her love and wisdom with them. A graduate of Handley High School, Class of 1974, Janet dedicated 18 years of her professional life as the devoted church secretary for Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Her work was more than a job; it was a calling, and she served with grace and diligence. Faith was the cornerstone of Janet's life. As a life-long member of Market Street United Methodist Church, she was a steadfast participant in the VAUMC Charge Conference and served on multiple committees at Market Street. She was also an active committee member and treasurer for BSA Troop 9. Janet's tireless efforts extended to organizing teams for Relay for Life, demonstrating her commitment to the well-being of others. Janet will be remembered for her nurturing spirit, her ability to love and care for others, and her remarkable selflessness. Her legacy is one of kindness, and she leaves behind a community better for having known her. A service to celebrate Janet’s life will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 7:00 PM at Market Street United Methodist Church, located at 131 S. Cameron St, Winchester. Family and friends are invited to join in remembering a life filled with love and service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janet’s memory to Market Street United Methodist Church or Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Her family finds comfort in knowing that her spirit will continue to touch many lives through these communities. Janet's light will forever shine in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her life was a beautiful example of love in action, and she will be dearly missed.
