Raymond Thomas Laycock, 91, passed away Wednesday, October 31st 2018 at Spring Arbor of Winchester. A lifelong resident of Loudoun County, Ray was born September 3rd, 1927 in Hamilton, VA. to Carroll P. and Mary E. Laycock. He graduated from Lincoln High School and spent most of his working career with Safeway Food Stores, where his last position before retirement was meat department manager at Safeway’s Middleburg (VA) store. Before moving to Winchester in 2016, he spent his years of retirement in Taylorstown, VA with his life-partner, Joan Rollins. Ray was known far and wide for his amazing skill at growing the best vegetables, much of which he shared with his friends and neighbors. He loved everything outdoors, animals, gardening, watching football and baseball games, working on his collection of antique tractors and going to auctions. Ray is survived by his devoted life-partner of over 70 years, Joan Rollins of Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury, sister Marie Jones of Glen Burnie, MD, god-son Michael Main of Winchester as well as other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers William, John, Robert, Curtis and Joseph. An 11am. graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 10th at Mt.Pleasant United Methodist Church, Taylorstown, VA. Inurnment will be in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery columbarium. A luncheon honoring Ray’s life will be held in the church immediately following the service. We would like to express our heart-felt appreciation to Jeri Robinson and the staff at Spring Arbor of Winchester, and to Blue Ridge Hospice for the skilled care and support everyone gave Ray and his immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Pleasant UMC, 13266 Taylorstown Rd, Leesburg, VA 20176 or Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St, Winchester, VA 22601.
