James Darrell Tallman, Jr.

James Darrell Tallman, Jr., 78, of Stephens City died Thursday, October 12, 2017 in Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center. Mr. Tallman was born June 10, 1939 in Fairmont, WV the son of James Sr., and Ruth Ours Tallman Shuster. Professionally, he was a sales associate for Grand Home Furnishings of Winchester for 12 years and for Sears & Roebuck Company for 28 years. After leaving Sears, he served as business manager for Kern Motor Company and was a sales associate for Montgomery Ward. He served in the Army National Guard for 6 years having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and received an honorable discharge. He attended Lord Fairfax Community College after graduating from Handley High School in 1958. He was a professional musician and played drums locally and abroad with the Bobby Daniels Trio. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1283 in Winchester as well as a member of Round Hill United Methodist Church. He was also an avid photographer and was an original co-founder of the Shenandoah Photographic Society and a member of the Board of Directors of the Winchester Chamber Orchestra. He is survived by his children, Terry Tallman and her husband Ron, Chris Tallman and his wife Wendi all of Atlanta, GA., and Jason Tallman and his wife Monica of Gore, VA., and grandchildren, Lindsey & Cole Tallman. A funeral will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in Phelps Funeral Chapel 311 Hope Drive Winchester officiated by Reverend Anthony Wadsworth. Burial will be in Mt. Hebron Cemetery. Friends will be received 7-9:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Esther Boyd Animal Shelter 161 Fort Collier Road Winchester, VA 22603
