Betty Jean Lewis Spanos, 88, of Winchester, passed away under palliative care Wednesday, August 1, 2018 in Sarasota, FL with family bedside. She was born July 12, 1930 in Cross Junction, VA, the daughter of Ray and Lena Braithwaite Lewis. She was married to Christos George “Chris” Spanos for sixty-six years. Mrs. Spanos was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and animal lover. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth R. Lewis, Sr. Surviving are a daughter, Tina Christine Spanos of Sarasota; a son, Christopher Tobias Spanos (Esther) of Michigan; and two grandchildren, Nikolas of Madison Heights, MI and Christian of Newport News, VA. A graveside service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Winchester with Rev. David Sipp officiating. Friends will be received on Thursday from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in Phelps Funeral Chapel, 311 Hope Drive, Winchester. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SPCA, 115 Featherbed Lane, Winchester, VA 22601.
